My Story

How we got started?

Sima Shah embarked on this philanthropic journey because it is “Time to Give Back”.

Sima founded Time to Give Back in January 2020. After spending her career as a payroll and benefits specialist, as well as volunteering with Sanatan Mandir Cultural Centre and the Scarborough Health Network, Sima decided to dedicate herself full-time to her philanthropic work. Sima started cooking food at her home every two to three weeks for 50 to 75 individuals in need and delivered it to a local soup kitchen. As a vegetarian, Sima focused on preparing delicious and nutritious vegetarian meals, such as salads, rice, and bean curries.

Sima, however, always knew she wanted to do more: Sima saw many senior citizens of the Indian community, including her mother-in-law, in hospitals, retirement homes, and nursing homes and who were unable to access a home-cooked Indian meal. Given the comfort that a familiar meal can provide, Sima’s goal is to deliver Indian meals to seniors. When Sima spoke to friends about her vision, she saw that there were many individuals who have the heart to serve the community and who were willing to give their time and resources to help those in need.

At Time to Give Back, our goal is to serve the community, including seniors, homeless and underprivilege people. We provide fresh and nutritious home-cooked meals to all who need one. We help to relieve loneliness and isolation of the aged and to improve their mobility and fitness by providing recreational, educational, cultural activities, and other programs for senior citizens.
